Lately, I have realized that ACTING and STAGE is one of my passions.. I have some sort of bright energy while I’m on stage. While I was leafing down my memories of this journey I reached the first station… I remembered the first time I went on stage to showcase my acting skill. Then opened the window of my childhood days when I was in lower KG .. A fancy dress competition was organized in the school and I had taken part in it J I was a nice healthy child so doing some girly performance- (vegetable vendor, fishermen- the common things that children did than) was not suitable for my personality. My mother scratched her head out and finally decided to dress me up like “ARJUNA”. We brought a Dress (A shiny yellow dhoti, a brown shirt like thing with all the rich looking work of golden beads, a crown, accessories and bow arrow) from Pednekar Uncle- he has a shop and rents all such costumes.
The day came, mom being a stage person had taken all the rehearsals – walking, talking. Voice, holding the bow, removing the arrow and a small dialogue…
“Mala fakta to masyacha dola distoy” (I can jus see the eye of the fish).
Vrushali Kulkarni- My teacher called out the moment had arrived… Little nervous I saw at the huge crowd of parents and students, managed to spot my parents in it.
I walked towards the stage perfectly as taught by my mom, performed my act fearlessly said my dialogue with a loud clear voice….. My mom had taught me to walk back too, but suddenly after the act I jumped down the stage and ran towards my mom. Everyone clapped; I was filled with pride and enthusiasm. While Going back home a smart but mentally retarded lady outside my school (she addressed herself as Madhuri Dixit) suddenly came towards me and said “You are looking very pretty, Child.” It made me more happy that ppl on the way also appreciated me.
Though I got a second prize for my first performance, today I feel happy that all liked my work right from that time.
And today, may be after 20 years I feel that like that time even today I love the applause given by people when m on stage.
